Jonny Freitas: Duck Junkies Youth Essay Contest Winner

Why do I have this passion, this obsession, for waterfowl and waterfowl hunting? It’s a question I have pondered many times while sitting in my blind waiting those precious minutes before legal shooting time, and even more in the dreaded offseason. Apprentice Hunter Validation/Hunter Education Deferral Program

What is it?  Essentially an Apprentice Hunter Validation/Hunter Education Deferral Program enables an individual who is normally required to have a Firearms Safety (FAS) Certificate, but does not have one, to try hunting for a year under the supervision of a licensed adult hunter.

The rules vary slightly from state to state so we can't specify here but we strongly encourage you to search this program on the web or contact your local WMA/DNR and use this to inspire new hunters!
