Mallard Nesting Project, Michigan Waterfowl (WLP)

E-mail

Hello Junkies,

Here are some pictures of the Mallard Nesting Project that we are currently working on. Some of these pictures look like they are over dry ground, well, they are for now.

The Reservoir that we are targeting for this project has been dropped for the winter months. This is normal for our area. The 30ft drop in water level relieves the tremendous stress created on the Dam during the winter. Thus creating low water levels in the bayou's. Once the Reservoir reaches its spring and summer water levels these Mallard nesting houses will be 3ft above the water.

We are keeping a close eye on these nesting tubes and recording any activity that takes place in or around these tubes. We are hoping by providing a safe place to nest, that our Mallards will produce more then one brood per year with minimal loss.

This month we have not witnessed any ducks move in, but we are staying optimistic. Here are some photo's, hope you all are enjoying the off season.
